“I just had to let you know that I experienced kava for the first time on a trip to Fiji. I was amazed at how deeply imbedded into the culture kava kava is. It is as prevalent there as alcohol is here, but without the havok that alcohol seems to wreak in the world. Anyway, I read so much about how the taste of Kava is unpleasant, but, to be honest, I thought the flavor was quite rich. It was slightly bitter, but there was a sweetness to it. And the effects! – The effects were far more pleasant than a drink of any alcohol I have ever had! It could have been the place I was in, with Fijians present dressed up in traditional clothing, or my excitement, but I was hooked from the first taste. Now, it’s a part of my world and my life often, and we are hoping some Kava bars will open in our town soon.”

“I know I’m not supposed to talk about Kava Kava medicinally, since it’s only an herbal supplement, but I have to say that I have been a sufferer of lower back pain for many years, and became addicted to prescription medication trying to fight it. Kava has literally changed my world and my life; I started using Kava as an alternative to medication to fight my back pain, but I also found that one of its side-effects has been reducing my anxiety as well! – What could be better? I found it extremely effective in helping me deal with my pain, but then found that it put me in a better mood on top of it. I’m hooked, and want to tell everyone about this amazing new discovery that everyone except me seems to have known about for thousands of years.”

I am currently disabled due to arthritis and a lower back condition. I’ve suffered for years with debilitating pain which lead to anxiety and depression. I was prescribed narcotics for my back condition and other chemicals for the arthritis, anxiety and depression. About three months ago, I started to use Kava as an alternative to a prescription tranquilizer to relieve anxiety. I can honestly say it not only worked on my anxiety; it also has eliminated my need for prescription pain killers! Now I only have to take one thing for relief; and all without worry about using harmful and addictive chemicals. Additionally, I now sleep like a baby for a full eight hours. Thank you Kava for a new lease on life!

First of all, great site! Here in South Florida there are at least 6 Kava Bars within an hours drive. They each have a unique flavor (both social and root!). One shell spiller (Kava Tender) mixes with ice when he makes a batch and the product is one of the smoothest, best tasting shells around.

South Florida kava culture on Facebook is one place to explore the various local Kava bars.

After being clean from alcohol and drugs for many years and still fighting bouts of depression and anxiety despite the pharmaceutical route and “Doctors orders”, I have found for me, Kava to be the answer. The social aspect of the various Kava bars will find everything from the stressed executive, naturalists, hippy set, artists of all genres and everything in between with the commonality of love of the root and general harmony with one another.

I could go on with my raves and a book could be written about my experiences with Kava culture. It is indeed “root from the gods”

Brian,

First of all; thanks for the kind words! Your description of the multi-layered effects of Kava is what I felt compelled to respond to: Kava truly is a social drink. It has always been used in ceremony throughout Oceania, and has a well-deserved nickname of being an “anti-shyness” herb. I always feel that aspect of Kava, and think that Kava Bars and Kava Cafes are perfect modern-day settings to explore those aspects of Kava Kava. I’m not sure why, but it seems that Kava is a hub for Kava culture and bars in the USA, and it’s exciting to see the popularity of Kava growing. The statistics don’t like; places in Oceania where Kava consumption is larger than alcohol consumption also have lower incidences of alcohol-related accidents and crimes (such as domestic abuse).

And, I can personally attest to the powerful anti-anxiety aspects of Kava as well, and I can’t count the number of visitors here who have stated that they have been able to reduce or eliminate their dependency on pharmaceutical medications because of Kava Kava. Whether it’s for depression or pain, the testimonials on Kava are the same. I like the “root of the gods” name; let’s try to get that to stick!

All the best,
